Desk Mess Mirrored 1.0.6

Posted by JellyBeen on June 11, 2009 in News, WordPress |

I’ve added a few more minor updates and uploaded Desk Mess Mirrored to WordPress.org for approval. The last update was approved in only a few hours.

We hope to see this one approved and made live in a similar amount of time.

The current theme version as of this writing is 1.0.5. The most recent changes are:

- Changelog:
-- Version 1.0.6
  - Removed unused CSS (legacy from original theme)
  - added minimal Form element styles
  - added email link to author.php
  - removed list "dot" beside calendar via '#subcolumn ul' element
  - added '.post dl' and related CSS elements

We appreciate and enjoy the number of people downloading and using this theme and will continue to make improvements as we find them; or, as you find them.

We welcome all comments and suggestions. We will address every one of them.

(NB: Desk Mess Mirrored version 1.0.6 is now live at WordPress.org as of Jun 12, 2009.)

Hi there… Loving your Desk Mess theme, but it doesn’t seem to want to play nice with YouTube videos when viewed in Opera 9.64 and Safari 4.0. Seems to work okay in FireFox. Hoping you’ll be able to support the aforementioned browsers, as I’d really like to use this theme and not limit my audience. 🙂

  • Thank you for your compliment and your input. I will add these to the to-do list and start reviewing for potential solutions.

PS: I have specifically created a YouTube video post on our test server and found with Windows using IE8, Chrome, FF3, Safari 4, Opera 9.6 to be no issues with a standard embedded link (using the HTML editor tab). I have also reviewed the same post with a Mac using Safari 4; and, employing the “user agent” for Opera 9.64 there were similarly no issues. Admittedly, there were some initial slow load times but I do not attribute that directly to the theme. Can you further explain in what ways the browsers were not “playing nice”? Thanks, EAC

    Hi Edward,

Thanks for creating and sharing this theme – I just installed it yesterday, and am loving it!

I do have a question, though. Is it possible to minimize the left picture (calculator, pen, etc) to half its current size, and stretch the blog title and tagline (brown frame underneath those two) so it’s more centered and visible?

    Thanks again,

    • Hello Laurie;
Thank you for the compliment, I do appreciate reading how the theme is being enjoyed and used.
Theme customization is available. What you are asking would require a bit of work; also, additional graphics may need to be created.
Please feel free to contact us directly if you would like to pursue this further.

Hi there. Thanks for looking into things. I wonder if I had a WP plugin that was causing the initial problem, as things seem to be working perfectly now. All my important plugins have now been updated since WPs latest version was released, so can I assume that was where the problem was? The “not playing nice” I mentioned was a problem with YouTube videos not loading — at all. Your theme would load fine otherwise. But YouTube videos, and only YouTube videos, would not show up on the page. Just a blank box would appear. However, since upgrading a few of my plugins the “problem” seems to have disappeared. Again, thanks for looking into this, and my apologies if I sent you on a wild goose chase! 🙂

    • I’ve read in several places that some non-current plugins were not functioning as expected with the current releases of WordPress, not that I would expect any to have issues with this theme. On the other hand, I have seen several themes that have issues with YouTube videos, and to be honest I had not tested this theme with a YouTube video at all prior to your earlier comment. I’m glad your issues “have disappeared”. Thank you for your time and patience.
