As WordPress 3.3 approaches I am working through all of my plugins. Although not really in any particular order, and some plugins have more on their @todo list than others, the latest to be highlighted with it’s update is BNS Corner Logo.

The biggest change, or at least the one that is most noticeable to the end-user, is the ability to choose the Gravatar to be used based on user ID rather than only `user_ID = 1` as the default.

The rest of the major changes, although mostly “under-the-page”, are noted in the changelog.

Important: If you were using the “Gravatar” option prior to updating this plugin, you may need to go into the widget option panel and re-Save to properly re-set the options after updating.

BNS Corner Logo 1.4

Yesterday it was suggested I make a small modification to the BNS Corner Logo plugin to add an additional option of opening the “URL to follow” in a new page. I thought this was a great idea and set to making the quick edits to accomplish this.

While I was looking though the plugin code I also noticed a few other items that could be addressed and put in those updates as well. The following changes are the highlights:

* correct version requirement message
* added option to open "URL to follow" in new page
* moved common inline styles to plugin's stylesheet

WordPress 3.0 BNS Plugin Updates

WordPress 3.0 is now officially in beta … beta1, but its still beta! That means the beginning of the final review and release of my BNS series of plugins. The first two, in no particular order (actually they were alphabetically first on my list) that have been tested compatible with WordPress 3.0 and released to the WordPress.org Plugins repository are:

Following the plugin updates will be the update releases of our themes.

NB: A minor issue in the BNS Corner Logo plugin using non-Gravatar images has been discovered and a temporary fix (version 1.3.1) will be going into the WordPress.org Plugin repository within the hour. EAC.

New WordPress Plugin: BNS Add Widget

I wrote this plugin inspired by a recent topic on the WordPress Support forums. I would like to thank Danylo for the discussion that lead me to the idea.

Here is the description for the BNS Add Widget plugin:

Add a widget area to the footer of any theme. Works just like the widget areas commonly created with code in the functions.php template file.

It essentially just adds a widget area to the footer of any theme by “hooking into” the standard WordPress function wp_footer(). This plugin will allow other plugins, like my BNS Corner Logo, to work when the active blog theme does not have its own built-in widget areas.

I’ve just finished committing the changes to the free WordPress plugin BNS Corner Logo. The significant change for this update is the addition of support for your Gravatar. Currently the Gravatar that will display, if the option is checked, will be the default administrator’s gravatar, that is the one associated with your blog’s User-ID=1.

New WordPress Plugin: BNS Corner Logo

I started working on this plugin shortly after I started using WordPress well over a year ago. At the time, I had no idea I was actually working on a plugin, it was just a bit of code to add a logo to the bottom right hand corner of the screen. I have used the code a few themes since, but only on my own web sites. I have also gladly given the code to whomever asked.

A few times the suggestion was made to turn this code into a plugin, and once again an idea was born, just took a bit longer than usual to give it life.

I tracked down my old code snippets and looked at what may be beneficial for others to use. I see a great deal of potential in this plugin. There is the obvious, displaying a logo, or any other image for that matter. There is also the possibility for graphic ads; special links to other pages or web sites; highlighting a special event; plus many more …

BNS Corner Logo went live on the WordPress.org Extend Plugins repository this morning, Sep 2, 2009 at version 1.0.
