The free WordPress Theme Ground Floor version 1.5.1 has just been approved into the WordPress Theme repository. Under the new review process here is its Trac ticket: http://themes.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/278.

Now that Ground Floor v1.5.1 has been published it will go back into the queue for further updates. Given the recent changes to the WordPress Theme Review process and the features from version 3.0 that I still want to add there is more code to be written … in the meantime, Enjoy!

Yesterday I uploaded the lastest version of the free WordPress theme Ground Floor for review. This update was mostly for cleanup and preaparation for the upcoming release of WordPress version 3.0 – see the following recent changelog for more details:

Ground Floor 1.3

I have just uploaded the latest version of Ground Floor to the WordPress.org Theme repository. Most of the updates were focused on cleaning up the CSS file as well as adding the two footer functions: bns_dynamic_copyright (version 1.3), and bns_theme_version (version 1.2.1). Here is the lastest changelog:

Minor Update to All Themes

A minor update was recently implemented in all of our themes; one that fixes the issue with fopen() errors in the footer. The code that causes these errors is identical in all our themes. This issue has been corrected and can be found in the following theme versions:

Desk Mess Mirrored version 1.3 of Aug 26, 2009
Shades version 1.1.1 of Sep 6, 2009
Ground Floor version 1.1.2 of Sep 6, 2009
Pinup Meets Grunge version 1.0.4 of Sep 6, 2009

The code in the footer is a check if the theme being used is a child theme. If it is a child theme: the code will display the child theme name with its version; and, the parent theme name with its version. The functions previously being used were incorrect.

If you are experiencing errors in the footer starting with text similar to:

Warning:file()[function.file]...

… then these latest versions of the themes will likely correct this issue. If you are not experiencing these footer issues the update will still have its benefits as noted in the changelog posted on each theme’s individual page.

(NB: The latest versions of Ground Floor and Pinup Meets Grunge are now live at WordPress.org as of Sep 8, 2009.)

Ground Floor 1.1

I have just uploaded the most recent version of our free WordPress theme Ground Floor for review at the WordPress Extend theme repository. Yes! It is a major jump in version numbers from our usual much smaller incremental changes … and with good reason. Here is the changelog for Ground Floor version 1.1:

= Version 1.1 =
  - re-work of the footer widget area into three (3) defined areas
  -- removed the  structures
  -- added BNS-Login plugin functionality to Middle Footer Widget as default.
  - improved IE6 compatibility
  - CSS: hr element -> edited properties: 'border: 1px solid black;' and 'background: #673000;'
  - CSS (new): added BNS Plugins section at end of style.css
The footer.php file was almost completely rewritten to remove the use of tables, which was only a stop-gap to begin with. We chose to add the full functionality of our free WordPress plugin BNS-Login version 1.2 as well into this theme.

New WordPress Theme: Ground Floor

I submitted the Ground Floor theme to WordPress.org just a short while ago. I also updated the themes page with the screenshot and theme description as they are included with the package. Here they are again:



… and the description as it appears in the stylesheet:
Richly toned wood floor background with bare-earth colored widgetized sidebar and footer (six widget areas in total, as shown on the included widget map). A strong theme to begin with; grow into; and, build on.
This theme offered several learning experiences ranging from: implementing threaded comments; furthering my understanding of internationalization coding; and, additional PHP coding techniques and concepts. Just like starting on the “ground floor”, this theme has given me a great sense of personal accomplishment. I hope it will be enjoyed and used by many people around the world.
