New WordPress Theme: NoNa

Although this theme is not really new, as far as it will appear in the WordPress Extend Themes repository it will be. Essentially NoNa is the No Nadia child theme of Pinup Meets Grunge but with all of the template files included. We will still support the No Nadia child theme but its development will end with the release of NoNa.

Here is the description from the style.css file:

Missing the pretty pin-up girl posing in the header, this grunge based theme originally known as Pinup Meets Grunge beautifully blends user option enabled background colors. This built-in option gives you the creative opportunity to truly make this theme your own. Do not be scared off by the dark look, try installing your own copy and playing with the background color changing option yourself. Remember, if you are not a fan of “blank” headers feel free to drop us a note and we can discuss additional options.

As much as I would like to see Pinup Meets Grunge “live” at WordPress.org again I do not expect it will happen, at least not without the community supporting its return.

Feel free to write themes@wordpress.org with your recommendation to have the status of Pinup Meets Grunge (137) changed from suspended back to live.

Death of a Theme…I think NOT!

My husband works hard on his themes and usually the graphics as well, but this time I did the graphics for a theme…Pinup Meets Grunge. In less than 1 month (22 days to be exact), Pinup Meets Grunge was downloaded 1100 times off of the WordPress.org themes directory. Today an email comes…Pinup Meets Grunge has been suspended…why…because they received “an email complaining that the theme ran against the no adult/mature themes rule for the directory.” To me ”an email” means 1…hmmm…1 vs. 1100 downloads, that just doesn’t add up.

I’m a 50 year old mother of 2 with 1 grandchild, I like art, I especially like 40′s and 50′s Pinup art, Nose-art of the old fighter planes. I like swing and Jazz, the shoes and hairstyles of that era. So why was my theme suspended. Can we say small minds? It’s 2009…get with the plan, there was nothing wrong with my theme, Wordpress.org approved it and then less than 1 month later they said ”while it isn’t obvious and over the top adult/mature (like a theme with pornography in it), I do think it’s fairly suggestive and trying to push where the line is for adult/mature in the theme directory.” I guess they wouldn’t know art if it jumped up and bit them in the…So I guess if someone were to make a theme honoring the art of that era or the nose-art fighter planes of that era, it will not get accepted. Or how about honoring the Miss America, Miss Universe pageants? Oh and lets not even think about making a theme for the swimming competitions/synchronized swimming or even the gymnastics of the Olympic games…because the way they dress it might be adult/mature…give me a break.

Powers that be at WordPress.org answer me this? Where are the rules for the “adult/mature themes rule for the directory”. I have been all over your site, using this search word and that search word and I can’t find anything relating to the types of graphics you can use in a theme. Once again, you approved the theme and then you get 1 email and suspend it…where does the censorship or should I say favoritism end?

WordPress.org, shame on you for taking a piece of art and turning it into something dirty…shame on you!

Minor Update to All Themes

A minor update was recently implemented in all of our themes; one that fixes the issue with fopen() errors in the footer. The code that causes these errors is identical in all our themes. This issue has been corrected and can be found in the following theme versions:

Desk Mess Mirrored version 1.3 of Aug 26, 2009
Shades version 1.1.1 of Sep 6, 2009
Ground Floor version 1.1.2 of Sep 6, 2009
Pinup Meets Grunge version 1.0.4 of Sep 6, 2009

The code in the footer is a check if the theme being used is a child theme. If it is a child theme: the code will display the child theme name with its version; and, the parent theme name with its version. The functions previously being used were incorrect.

If you are experiencing errors in the footer starting with text similar to:

Warning:file()[function.file]...

… then these latest versions of the themes will likely correct this issue. If you are not experiencing these footer issues the update will still have its benefits as noted in the changelog posted on each theme’s individual page.

The new free WordPress theme Pinup Meets Grunge was just uploaded to WordPress.org on Aug 30, 2009. Here is the description as taken from the style.css file:

A pretty pin-up girl posing in the header highlights this grunge based theme and beautifully blends the user option enabled background colors. The built-in user option to change the background color gives you the creative oppurtunity to truly make this theme your own. Do not be scared off by the dark look, try installing your own copy and play with the color changing option for yourself. If you’re not a fan of pinup girls feel free to drop us a note and we can discuss additional options.
