I am brand new to all of this word press/blog stuff so please bear with me.
I can’t seem to get the home page to come up with a box ready for someone to start a comment. I would like to have a log-in/register link in the header bar. that once done would open a page for a comment.
@Al – Thanks for choosing the Ground Floor theme. As to your ideas of commenting, the general method with WordPress is to associate specific comments with specific posts or pages. If you want to have commenters register before posting a comment, then you will need to turn on the option in the administration panel under Settings | Discussion: “Users must be registered and logged in to comment”
What you appear to be seeking beyond this could be possibly be done by editing the theme’s core files, please review our WordPress Services page and contact us if you wish us to consider the project.
Is it possible for this theme to display timestamps next to the posted date? Even if it were in military time (15:00 as opposed to 3:00pm) that would be great!
@Jason – yes this is possible to do but it will require some minor edits to several(?) theme template files. The theme uses the_time() function to present the date, you can extend its parameters to show the time.
@charlie – Thank you again for the great feedback but I had submitted the latest version (1.6) of Ground Floor late last night. I will definitely look at this patch and will consider implementing those items that are still valid. In the meantime, please feel free to submit the Hungarian translation files for inclusion in the release following their receipt.
I am very new to WP as well. Can you please give me very detailed instructions as to where I can find the “Custom Field” VALUES? For instance, I want to add a thumbnail and would like to know which verbiage should be used for that field.
A friend asked me to help her ‘tuneup’ her website. She chose your Ground Floor theme. I’m sorta new at using themes without a framework. I’ve worked a lot with Genesis and various StudioPress themes.
Is there a way to place Ground Floor into the Genesis framework? If not, could you give me an idea of how I go about adding widgets to individual pages in this theme.
@Gene – Thank you and your friend for choosing Ground Floor as your theme. As to it being placed in the Genesis framework I cannot say as I have no experience working with Genesis.
IIRC, the XWidgets plugin may be able to help you with adding specific widgets to specific pages/posts … it’s showing as a little out of date and I have not used it in quite some time. Here is a link: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/xwidgets/
@Scott – The simplest way to change all of the default sidebar content is to drag-and-drop a widget into Sidebar 1 and it will “take control” of that area essentially over-writing what the default sidebar content displays. If you are considering this as removing the sidebar altogether then it would be a much more extensive change and would require new theme code and graphics.
@Joe – I see you are actually using the “Shelter” theme (your question really doesn’t change its request). Although perhaps some clarity as to the exact position of this logo may help. Are you wanting the logo in the top left corner of the browser window, or are you wanting the logo in the top left corner of the header “frame”?
Top left corner of the header. I might have to increase the size of the header also. The current logo is 86px in height and with the navi menu i may need to increase the height of the header. Hope this helps.
@Joe – You should look at the div#header-title or div#blog-title CSS elements and add your logo as a background image. Once you add your logo image you can then fine tune its position. I would not expect you need to worry about resizing anything but if so, you should look at setting the height of the div#header-middle CSS element.
@Wally Root – The font size of the “Blog Title” can be found around line 156 in the ‘style.css’ file as the `font-size` property. You can overwrite the value used or better: create a Child-Theme; or, use a plugin such as my “BNS Add Style plugin” to modify the value being used. You may also want to look at the properties of the “Blog Description” near line 167 as well. It can be modified in a similar fashion … and thank you for choosing Ground Floor as your theme!
I had my 1st Home page static and it was duplicated on the tabs. I was trying to eliminate a duplicate home page and I messed up my
.php header code. Is therre a way to copy and paste the correct code in? Where can I find it?
I went to APPEARANCE/EDITOR/TEMPLATES/HEADER (header.php) and messed it up. http://www.carlyleentertainment.com thanks in advance
@Henry – Getting the file from GitHub is generally fine, it would only be a concern if I was actively reviewing and updating the theme at the same time you copied the code. Just remember to check the version number of the template to see if it the same as the one you are over-writing.

@Henry – The easiest way to get rid of the “double home” menu items is to create a Custom Menu and use it in place of the default menu (which automatically includes a link to the site’s top level domain). As for having a different set of widgets on each page, that is something not included in the theme and more often than not most end-users requiring that functionality from their theme will use a plugin to accomplish it.
This is my first website. Its a miracle I got this far since I am a magician not a computer guy. I also need to find a way to have different sidebars on each page. Now they are all the same. Thanks in advance
“As for having a different set of widgets on each page, that is something not included in the theme and more often than not most end-users requiring that functionality from their theme will use a plugin to accomplish it.”
@Henry – The one I would normally recommend has recently been noted as “not recommended” by WordPress. I haven’t looked into why and until such time I will not be recommending it as a precaution.
@Henry – The WooThemes developers produce some very nice work. You might be able to use their plugin to accomplish what you are looking to do. Best of luck … and let me know how it goes, too!
How can I get rid of the Leave A Reply text section and the Comments Box at the bottom of pages where I don’t want it, such as Privacy Policy page, About Me page and others?
I only want comments on a set Blog/Comments page. The other pages are only for me to publish educational nisch articles on.
And how can I make Privacy Policy a clickable link at the bottom of the page that only shows the PrivacyPolicy when clicked upon?
@Christian – These are more general WordPress usage questions than theme related and without a link to see you site I can only offer general ideas for you to consider. First, on your editor pages you should see a “Discussion” panel, simply check or un-check those boxes as they apply (you may need to turn on the discussion panel under the editor’s Screen Options tab in the top left corner).
Since “Ground Floor” does not offer any “Privacy Policy” functionality I can only imagine you will need to create that link using some sort of HTML … there are many good tutorials on this site if you are not familiar with basic HTML.

http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags/the_time

There are other methods but this will be minimal edits to the theme.
NB: These will be required after every update as well.
Hello!
There is a typo in the page.php file, at line 21.
Missin > after <p
@charlie – Thank you for the feedback, it will be corrected in the next release … and this has just put it to the top of my priority list.
I made some small modification in the theme for a better localization support, please see this patch (include hungarian translate): http://blogocska.org/files/2010/10/ground-floor.diff_.txt

@Najah – This theme does not use custom fields but does implement the post-thumbnail functionality for Featured Images.

@Scott – You’re welcome, glad to help … and thank you for choosing Ground Floor as your WordPress theme.
Hello,
I would like to add a logo to each page in the top left corner of the header. Can you provide detailed instructions.
Love the theme so far.
Thanks!!

copied and pasted from the github link above and it worked . Is that ok? Now how do I get rid of the double home page?

can you suggest which plugin?

How about WooSidebars Plugin? It works with dynamic sidebars.
Whatever they are.
